“Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.” ~Martin Luther
Vocal Music Groups at Our Father!
Adult Vocal Choir
We are in the process of naming this choir, to give it a bit more of an identity. The choir is certainly NOT exclusive to adults! If you are Confirmation age or above, you are invited to sing with this group! We sing a variety of music, from the Baroque and Classical periods to more contemporary compositions. If you feel the Lord has blessed you with the gift of singing and you would like to share this gift with us, please visit some Thursday evening! We rehearse from 7:30 – 9 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
Men’s Choir
Our men’s choir sings a variety of music at different times of the Church Year, for example Year’s Eve, Good Friday, and more! This group of singing men rehearses two – four weeks before their appearance, generally on Saturday mornings after the men’s group meets at Our Father. So maybe you cannot commit to weekly rehearsals but would like to participate “once in awhile”. If so, and you sing tenor or bass, give it a try!
Women’s Choir
This is a very new musical group at Our Father. I guess I figured if we have a Men’s Choir, why not try a Women’s Choir as well?! The Women’s Choir will hopefully participate a few times during the Church Year, rehearsing a few weeks before their appearance. Again, maybe you cannot commit to weekly rehearsals but would like to sing periodically throughout the year? If you sing soprano or alto, this group is for you!
Our Father’s Kids’ Praise!
Our children’s music program meets Wednesday evenings throughout the school year, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. (with a shortened schedule during Advent and Lent, to coordinate with the mid-week worship services). Mary Wenkheimer (director) and Stacie Davidson (piano) lead the K-2 grades and 3-6 grades vocal choirs. Not only do they learn exciting and challenging music to sing for worship, they also learn basic music theory and even experiment with different rhythm and barred instruments. If your child(ren) fits this age group and would like to participate in this wonderful mid-week music opportunity, check out a Wednesday evening! (Parents can even attend an adult Bible Class during the same time, and there are Student Ministry opportunities for our Middle School and High School aged kids as well!)
