Summer Mission Trips 2012

Tha MYX-Denver, CO SonRise Camp-Anderson, IN
June 23-29, 2012 July 22-29, 2012
What is Tha MYX?
Tha MYX is a custom mission experience like no other. Our mission is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with some of Denver's neediest inhabitants. This will be done by handing out meals and lunches to needy individuals, caring for the children in the Sun Valley and Lincoln projects, and helping with a city-wide outreach event.
What is Sonrise Camp?
Campers are paired with volunteer companions who range from age 14 through retirement. Activities include Bible study, art, woodcrafts, swimming, bowling, campfires, karaoke, dancing, hiking, and enjoying God's creation.
The volunteer companions spend one day in orientation before the campers arrive. This training demonstrates how they can assist their camper with the activities of daily living and being a friend.
The volunteers who come to Sonrise Camp are drawn out of their comfort zones and challenged to grow as Christian servants.
Students will be asked to put aside their own needs for one week in order to be fully present for the camper they are placed with. By doing so, students will learn patience and compassion while growing closer to their Savior Jesus by serving others.

How can I raise money to help with my trip?
- Personal letters to families and friends
- Birthday/Christmas gifts. Have you ever thought of the money you are given for your birthday by various relatives? It adds up quick. Allowance $-
- Allowance $ -You might consider cutting back on the stuff you normally buy with your allowance and saving up towards the trip. It starts out small but $5 a month for 9 months is $45, and a big chunk of spending money.
- Part Time Jobs - If you already have a part time job and make $6.00 per hour and can work an extra 2 hours per week, that is almost $50 per month; 9 months of that is the majority of the cost of the trip.
- Couch, chair, and car seat raids -It sounds piddly, but go through the couches in your house. Hit your friends, relatives too (ask first). Not to mention underneath the seats in your parents cars and the cup of loose change on top of the laundry washer. If you can scrounge $.50 a week in change, that is $15 in spending money over the next few months. Consider asking your relatives to do a loose change drive for you.
- Working in the Neighborhood -Think about the money you could raise in your own neighborhoods and subdivisions. Try making up some flyers and offer the following services. Make sure that you include in the flyer that you are raising $ and for what.
- Shoveling Driveways -When it snows you shovel Pretty self explanatory.
- Lawn mowing -When the grass grows you mow it. Pretty self explanatory.
- Baby sitting -When the baby poops, you change ‘em. Pretty self explanatory.
- Easter Breakfast Fundraiser
- Ride the River- DUH!
How can I communicate with my student while they are away?
- SonRise: Due to camp regulations, students will not be permitted to have cell phones during the week. If you have an emergency you may contact Micah’s cell phone or one of the camp numbers
- MYX: Phone use is discouraged. If there is an emergency or immediate concern, you may contact Micah’s cell phone or that of one of our adult volunteers.
- Daily updates will be available on the Our Father Student Ministries Facebook Page. Check there daily for pictures and updates!
