Education at Our Father

 

Sunday Adult Education Opportunities
Term III:  April 20 - June 1, 2008
(Sunday Education hour is from 9:30 - 10:30 am)

  • Basics:  “Becoming a Member of the Our Father Family” This New Member orientation class serves as an introduction to Our Father Lutheran Church and the Christian community that gathers here.  Congregational officers and lay ministers describe their ministries and the New Member Team helps those seeking membership  identify their spiritual gifts for our ministry together.  Instructor:   Linda Olsen and Team
     

  • Intermediate:  “Gospel Speak” Explore how to use the word of God in our daily lives more effectively.  Learn to make better use of the Word in speaking to God in our prayer lives, to ourselves in our thought lives, to our families and friends in our personal lives, and to our community in our public lives.  Instructor:  Jack Weaver
     

  • Intermediate:  “Experience 101 (2nd Term)”  Learn, wrestle and study with some of the big questions that face the church today as we live out our mission and our lives in such ways that the world around us is able to “Experience” the good news of God’s love in Jesus Christ.  Instructors:  Pr CJ and Mindy Ransdell, Ruth Koch and Maegan Stein
     

  • Challenge:  “Here Come the Cults (2nd Term)”  Why bother?  What are they?  Why are they growing so fast? Common elements?  How do we witness about Jesus to cultists?  Answer these questions as you explore Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Scientology, Christian Science and more.  Instructors:  Pr Werner Boos and Curt Becker

 

Sunday Youth Education Opportunities
(Sunday School hour is from 9:30 - 10:30 am)

Children from age two through eighth grade are invited to attend Sunday School each week from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  Dedicated members of the congregation serve as teachers and helpers in each grade level.  The purpose is to help children in developing Christian attitudes and to assist in their growth in the knowledge of the Triune God.

Parents and 2's:  "Jesus is My Friend"

Preschool (3- 5 year olds) - “God Made the World," "Noah and the Flood," "Abraham and Sarah," and "Baby Moses"

1st through 3rd Graders  - “Wilderness Trail - Lessons on Respect"

5th and 6th Graders - "GRAPPLE"  - Why Do My Parents Always Say No?  Why Can't I Be an Only Child?  Go to mygrapple.com, a new interactive website where you can interact with your classmates and vote on the games you'll play in class (you will get your password in class).

7th and 8th Graders - "Dealing with Competition"

Senior High Student Bible Class -  Freshmen through senior high students are invited to attend these classes.  This is a continuing way of strengthening their spiritual growth after confirmation.  Issues that face the teen today are discussed, for example:  church cults, personal fears and how to cope with them, sexuality, drugs, etc.

 

MidWeek Adult Classes (April 9 - May 7, 2008)
(Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.  Midweek meal begins at 5:45)
(Classes are from 6:30 - 7:10 during Advent and Lent)

  • Making Room for Life—Would you like to trade chaotic lifestyles for more connected relationships?  Come for a look at biblical principles that reduce stress, nurture relationships and point toward a simpler, more fulfilling way of living.  Instructor:  Linda Olsen

  • Making Worship & Liturgy Come Alive!—As you come to understand the flow of the liturgy it will mean so much more to you as you worship.  Learn from Moses, from Christ, from Luther and how they influence our worship today.  Enhance your worship experience by participating in this class.  Instructor:  Tom Hacker
